One Step Forward
Just a great short film. Could be used for speculation - stop the video at intervals and ask why? - or get students to relate the story of what happened as he is about to do at the beginning (or end?)

Growing Up
A short animation about the fears involved in growing up.

A great animation that shows one man's flight using symbols. No language so could be used to elicit/check vocab for airports/travel.

Arranged Marriage
An interesting topic: students could say what 20 questions they would ask, then decide together if they are too private. Listen and see how many came up. Could also focus on the reactions to questions. Stop the video before the end and predict ending - Did they marry? How many arranged marriages end in divorce?
Procrastination
I just added this because I love it so much, as I sit here looking for vids while I should be getting dinner.
Could work as a model for students to come up with their own definitions, I like the idea of personal definitions of abstract concepts like Happiness, Envy, Anger etc.

Split screen
A nice little story that could be used to check or elicit some "getting around" verbs for low levels. Could also be used to elicit speculation on the relationship and reason for meeting.
Mechanical Body
A great little vid for describing processes and the body. Would also be fun to put a narration over the top of this vid describing what all the little guys do.

The Story Beyond the Still
This is an inspirational project in which film makers collaborate to produce a story. Each one starts with a still image and continues from the still at the end of the next chapter. See the video below for details.
Lots of possibilities here for collaborative writing by students (or even filmmaking).
Give them the first still from which they brainstorm questions they want answered - watch 1st vid.
Look at next still.
The whole film with all eight chapters runs to about 50 minutes, so this could be spread over several lessons with one chapter per lesson. Then, watch the whole film for a review.

Students could then write what they want to happen next. Watch 2nd vid, and so on.
On the site there are various entries that were put forward for each chapter and students could vote for the one they like best. See the entries here

Placebo
An interesting look at the strange effectiveness of placebos. A lot of comparisons made here that could be exploited for language focus. Try watching without sound first to get a gist of the film.

An interesting idea in this video. You could easily reproduce the black hole in the video and ask students what they would use it for (before or after watching)

A fun short film that looks at disappointing year in a books life. Would make a good vid to start a discussion on changing reading habits. Also allows for good practice of passives.

Alma
A wonderful animation that looks at childhood fears. There are some key moments in the film where it could be paused for students to predict what will happen next. Could also be used as a basis for writing a story.
Fifty People One Question
There are loads of Youtube vids based on this idea.
Some great videos on this site that, as the title suggests, have 50 people answering one simple question. The one below is "What is your secret?", others include "Where would you wish to wake up tomorrow?" and "Before the end of today, what would you wish to happen?". Some great responses some of which are not aimed at kids.
